What does Echoly actually do?
Echoly is a Chrome extension that drops live translated subtitles into the YouTube player. It also offers a voice overlay mode for videos without captions. Works the same on Vimeo and Twitch. Average latency is around 280ms once a subtitle line begins.
Is there really a free tier? What's the catch?
30 minutes per month, no card required, no time limit on the offer. After that, you either upgrade to Pro/Max, paste your own Kyma API key (BYOK), or wait until the next month. No upsell pop-ups, no surprise charges.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. Click "Manage subscription" inside the dashboard — it opens the Stripe Customer Portal where you cancel in one click. You keep access until the end of the current billing cycle. No "are you sure" gauntlet.
How is my video data handled?
Audio chunks are sent to our translation API for processing, then discarded — we don't store them. Only billing metadata (duration billed, source, language pair) is kept for usage tracking. Full details on our privacy page. BYOK users skip Echoly's servers entirely.
Which languages are supported?
40+ language pairs across English, Vietnamese, Spanish, Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, Chinese (Simplified + Traditional), French, German, Italian, Russian, Arabic, Indonesian, Thai, Hindi, Turkish, and Polish. Both directions for each pair. Free tier limited to English ↔ Vietnamese — Pro and Max get all pairs.
Can I use my own API key (BYOK)?
Yes — paste your own Kyma API key in the extension popup and Echoly proxies through it. Unlimited use at Kyma's wholesale cost, no Echoly cap. BYOK takes precedence over a subscription if both are set.
Does the Realtime overlay come with Pro?
No — Realtime is a Max-only feature (120 minutes/month included). Pro covers subtitle-first translation only, which is what most YouTube videos already enable. Upgrade to Max if you watch a lot of livestreams or caption-less podcasts.
